Hi, I currently have a Kawasaki KLX 250 and need to find out some info on getting some bigger bikes in Indo as i want to do some serious touring. Something around the 650 mark or so. I understand about the import taxes on new bikes and how crazy they are so i guess if anyone has any info on dealers or good second hand places that would be great! any info would be much appreciated with finding large trail bikes in Indonesia that can be registered...Cheers !

Your best shot is to buy a second hand one on kaskus, but they are few and far between, try the KTM dealership, they occasionally have second hand and certainly new ones

They will all cost you a pretty penny. What's wrong with a Kawasaki KLR250S retrofitted with a large fuel tank?

remember the klx 250 requires pertamax fuel ..., it annoys me that the kawasaki klx 250 is allowed into indonesia ( it is imported from thailand ) but the kawasaki KLR 650 which is made in the same thai factory is not imported into indonesia .
I understand where your comming from travelrat , I too want a KLR 650 , its more comfortable on the pantat , cheap (only US$3500 more ) can carry more weight , and not overly big ,,,,,, and anyway , are the roads here really suitable for a straight road bike anyway ? (especially when trekking ) I think not !
Man , I put a couple of surfboards , a top box , and panniers , and a tank bag (and sometimes the missus on the back of my bike ) the poor ol bike ( scorpio 225cc ) ..... is like a camels back - broken , the rear suspension really sux ...... bring on the KLR650 Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeee....

The way i understood it, it is not legal for regular maases to own anything bigger than 250cc foe bikes and 3L for cars. The bigger displacements are bought by diplomats and then sold locally.

In that case , if only I can find a diplomat who didnt have to pay import tax to import a kawasaki KLR650 , and then sell it to me 1 day after it arrives in indo . In the meantime i will continue to dream that one day i will be able to buy the bike that I want .

YEah any nice diplomats out there keen to buy a bike for me and Dave ? haha. Replying to the thread about whats wrong with the 250, well nothing really, its a sick bike but as Davo said, load that thing with the gear you need for month plus trips for long haul traveling across rough roads and to places with out Pertamax and your in trouble. Great bike, ive done all i can to get as much out of it but at the end of the day it aint no workhorse. Has anyone heard if Yamaha or Honda are bringing any of their dual sport 250's to Indo to follow Kawasaki ? they should cause id buy a Yamaha WR 250 over a kawasaki.

The kawasaki 250 is currently the bike of my dreams. Wish i could afford it but sadly not at this moment or atleast untill i can sell my current bike. If honda would bring in their XR250 i might even faint.

Dont get rid of the KLX too fast mate. Check out this kawasaki forum dedicated to the KLX 250..

You will be totally surprised at the amount of mods that can be done to this bike! There is even a 351cc big bore kit (but i dont know how to get it into indo). Some people have got some amazing dyno readings out of a maximally modded KLX250.

a mate just boght the d-trackerx 250 ( klx with stiffer adjusted shocks and 17inch road tyres , but strong wheels and thick spokes , it goes good , shocks great , and doest bounce like a rocking horse when braking and accelerating like the klx . A good bike for indo , and reliable , theres many klx happy campers out there . My mate done a few minor mods , 1st he got rid of the ugly taillight and rear mudguard replaced it with and had a really cool looking led tail light from the uk . Then he bought a new imported stainless racing exhaust , the original is soooooo heavy , he made up a cool rack too , although there is big range available on the market for those bikes .
A 350 bore kit eh , doesnt leave much metal , but cylinder heads are cheap here. Its good that you can get so many quality after market parts , but really the bike is prety good from the showroom , for what it is meant to be , but so it should be for the price , but you cant spend too long it that saddle ouch

The 351 bore kit is a cylinder swap. No actual bore is done to the existing engine. Aparently the klx250 shares the same engine as its bigger brother with only a smaller cylinder so thats why its possible

coooooooooooooooooool info about the bore kit bebop , have to look into it some more . I also looked at that kawasaki forum and saw that seargent seats ( manufacturers of comfortable aftermarket mbike saddles ) ........ are in the process of / have already? designed a more comfortable seat for the klx250 , as they have done so for the klr650. Bikes are only fun untill you get monkeybutt /chaffing etc etc .
