Surf Trips from Jakarta

Hey all,

I am a Canadian intern living in Jakarta, hoping to make some weekend surf trips.

Anybody wanting to do, or know of anyone that offers, inexpensive day trips to Carita or the like?

If it's a weekend, you could consider Cimaja, about 12 km to the west of Pelabuhanratu and one of the centers for surfing in West Java. Unfortunately, this year the bay has been pretty "duckpondish". Check the satellites before you come down. A number of low-cost accommodations.

Alternatively, for more experienced surfers, there's Ombak Tujuh - known for big(gish) waves. This is just to the north of Ujung Genteng, which in turn is 91km south of Pelabuhanratu. Last I heard there was an Aussie-managed surfers' losmen there.

Me a surfer? Nah.

What he may be trying to say is that the real surf is on the southern, Indian Ocean coast, not the western flank. If Tanjung Lesung is any indication, there's really no waves to speak of on the western flank.
