View Full Version : £90 everytime i leave Jakarta???
I'm sure this has been asked before but i just can't believe it. When I am posted in Jakarta for maybe 2 years (working for UK company), will my wife and I have to pay £90 every time we leave the country? if we want to go to thailand on the weekend to see family and friends etc, maybe once a month or maybe once every 2 months - we will have to pay, because technically we are living and working in jakarta? pretty harsh, is there any way to get out of it, like use a different airport, or go by another method, boat? lol. the flight itself is only £90 return to bangkok! i thought we were getting a good deal at only £90, now not at all considering its doubled up because of this fee.
any tips?
For a week end trip, it will force you to loose a full day of transport if you fly first to Batam, then on by ferryboat to Singapore, then on again to Thailand. However, you'll save on the Fiskal (IDR 500.000 from seaport versus IDR 1.000.000 from airport), on the airport taxe (IDR30.000 on domestic flight from JKT to BTH vs IDR 100.000 on international flight from JKT) and you will have access to much more choice on low cost airlines companies or destinations from Singapore to Thailand (Tiger Airways (http://booking.tigerairways.com/home/index.php), Jetstar (http://jetstarasia.com/), Air Asia (http://www.airasia.com/site/id/id/home.jsp), Cebu Air Pacific (http://www.cebupacificair.com/) -the last one is offering flights to Thailand from Singapore only seasonnally).
For a longer trip, it could make sense if money is a concern. However for a wek end trip, that's a lot of wasted time.

If you have a copy of your companies tax details when you pay the fiscal, they will make the paperwork for the receipt in the name of/off your company. You can then, if your company agree's submit this to them as an expense which they could re-imburse.
This is tax deductible for the company. *A win-win* situation as nobody pays anything.
The fiskal is only payable by Indonesian citizens and, I think, those on a KITAS or whaterver a long-term work/buisiness visa is called these days. I million Rp for air departure, .5 million for a sea departure and around .2 million by land.

It was introduced to clobber tax avoiders when they travel. It is payable by all Indonesian citizens and KITAS holders, which will include your wife and kids. The theory is that it is a pre-payment of income tax, so your company should reimburse it to you (mine does) and handle the paperwork.
Make sure your company registers you for a personal tax number, called N.P.W.P., (i.e. they don't pay your income tax through the company tax number), because from 1st January, anyone with a personal N.P.W.P. is exempt from paying fiskal YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
you can ask for free fiskal after 3 times you paid the fiskal in 2 yrs ..just show them your old fiskal
