View Full Version : Help with contracts for house hold employees
Hi! We have been having so many maids before and never had a contract with them.
Now we are paying 5 household helpers.
So would like if some one is kind enough to give me some hint or send me a copy of an agreement, how it should look like.
Or should we stay as we are without anything….???

We have written English/Indonesian agreements with all our domestic employees, but I am hesitant to pass it out as it is structured to our particular needs and quirks. Plus it has not had any kind of review or vetting by an Indonesian legal professional; there are probably paragraphs that do not mesh well with Indonesian law. We started with a standard general employment agreement we down loaded from a site in the USA, modified it for our needs and to comply with the Indonesian statutes with which we are familiar and then istri translated each paragraph. You might want to do the same.
We have two contracts-- one with our pembantu and one that we created for a sopir (who is no longer in our employ). Like waarmstrong stated, I didn't consult with any lawyers prior to drafting the contracts. We wrote them in English and then paid a colleague to translate them for us. Our contracts are written to protect the employee, not us (the employer), so they might not really be what you're looking for. If you're interested, though, I'd be happy to PM them to you for use as a reference. (As far as pay, vacation time, insurance benefits, etc... go, I'm sure that our contracts go above and beyond anything required by Indonesian law.)

Sorry for being a bit off topic, but, Sam, please check you PM mail box. Its full, so the note I send got kicked back.
Uh oh! Okay, I'll clean out the inbox. My mother-in-law has been visiting from the States and it's my birthday (today!), so we've been busy entertaining and celebrating. Haven't been online much the last couple of weeks!
