We've been living out of hotels and the internet speed is pathetic. It gets worse in the evenings/holidays as more people log on. Is there a way that we can get a fast internet service - maybe satellite or something similar.

:confused::confused::confused:

Telkomsel, ESIA and Indosat offer various options, downside is that you need to buy a modem that is unique to the provider. These are expensive but best to look at what the costs are from each provider for the service before choosing which modem you buy.

I used a Telkom flash connection in my laptop ....usb or pcmj card connection.(Rp 200,000)..7.5mb - lol - or was that 70-300kb....can be higher depending on signal but i hang round north or north west jakarta and i think south jakarta has a better signal.
Having got that it means if i travel (like to bali) then i can use it there.
Now i am fixed in an apartment i use Telkom Speedy - an unfortunate name , maybe speedy means something else in indonesian. but i have the flash conection for travel.

Satellite would not be an option temporarily. There was an option for a wireless based service in Jakarta that was supposed to be quite fast, I assume based around CDMA network. Perhaps someone from Jakarta can oblige you.

There are some wireless networks around Jakarta though the coverage is not great. You could check out netZap and see if they cover you present location. Their link is http://www.net-zap.com/index.php?opt=coverage&sub=0

Best option might be to wait until you move into your house/apartment and ensure you have a cable TV service capability. The broadband packages from the cable operators are usually not badly priced for Indonesia and give acceptable speeds. First Media, Indovision, etc are referred.

That would be NetZap, and last year it was indeed fast. Lately though it has started sucking badly, they don't really invest in their equipment and seriously overbook their bandwidth. Also if you're in a building on a side that faces away from the nearest base station, signal strength goes right down and you won't be able to do much of anything for any extended period of time.

Anyone wanting relatively high-speed mobile internet is better off getting Telkomsel Flash or Indosat IM2 or something equivalent. Might be a bit more expensive but at least it works most of the time :)
